Learning Greek

I first started to learn greek at night school 10 years ago. This was using the BBC Greek Language and People book and audio. Because of commitments I never got past chapter 10 and dropped out after beginners level.

I love greece its people and language
I worked in Rhodes 11 years ago for a season in the old and new towns
I take my holidays in Greece and I like to be able to speak to the older people in their language

What inspired me to learn greek more seriously was 14 years ago on a trip to a village with our tour rep. We were shown around an old ladies house and the lady was talking away to us for about 20 minutes in greek but the rep never understood greek!!!!! So she was unable to tell us what the old lady had been saying to us

All I could speak at that time was enough to ask her name and ask questions of her family pictures on the walls. She was so happy when I spoke to her in her own language the joy on her face and tears in her eyes have remained with me ever since

I have learnt quite a bit of greek in the last year after finding the Kypros Site which offers absolutely free greek lessons but am not fluent. I can speak better than I can write because I am lazy lol

With the help of a Free sound recorder a friend recorded all 105 audio lessons for the course from the

Cyprus Radio Station which originally broadcast the lessons.I can now listen to them on my MP3 player which is great.

The course is really well put together but I did find the grammar lessons a bit difficult though as I didn't learn grammar at school. I am slowly getting to grips with it though. I just had to stick with it

Greek is not as difficult to learn as you may think. Take a look at the Cyprus Radio site and listen to lesson 1. You will see for your self how easy it is.
